Sie wird diese Rolle in allen drei "Ring"-Zyklen der Festspielzeit 2001 verkörpern. Für 2002 gibt es jedoch bereits anderweitige vertragliche Bindungen, die seitens der Bayreuther Festspiele eingehalten werden müssen. Ihr Bayreuth-Debüt als Brünnhilde gab Luana DeVol allerdings bereits 1990, als sie in einer "Siegfried"-Aufführung kurzfristig einsprang. Ya veremos. Atentamente, ENRIQUE SERNA MUNTANER Luana DeVol, Soprano Luana DeVol was born in San Mateo, California and an early interest in music led to five years study on the violin. Discovering her singing talent, she was engaged by the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. After winning in district Metropolitan Opera auditions, she traveled to London to study with renowned teacher, Vera Rosza. She returned to San Francisco to continue her studies with Janet Parlova and the legendary Wagner study, Jess Thomas. She appeared extensively in concert in the San Francisco Bay Area, and first appeared as an opera soloist as Leonore in Beethoven’s FIDELIO, with Palo Alto’s West Bay Opera. Luana DeVol made her European debut in 1983 with the Württembergische Staatsoper in Stuttgart, Germany, as Leonore in FIDELIO. Returning briefly to the United States, she appeared with the Seattle Opera as Leonore in Verdi’s LA FORZA DEL DESTINO, and with the San Francisco Opera in the title role of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS, with Christoph von Dohnanyi conducting. In 1984 she became a member of the Aachen Stadttheater where she specialized in the operas of Strauss, Verdi, and Wagner, including the Marschallin in DER ROSENKAVALIER, Leonore in LA FORZA DEL DESTINO, Senta in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER, and Elsa in LOHENGRIN, as well as Donna Anna in Mozart’s DON GIOVANNI. In 1987 she was engaged by Mannheim National Theater where additional Strauss, Verdi and Wagner roles included the Kaiserin in DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN as well as Chrysothemis in ELEKTRA, Amelia in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA as well as AIDA, and Elizabeth in TANNHAÜSER and Brünnhilde in SIEGFRIED. As guest artist she appeared frequently on the rosters of the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Nederlandse Oper, Hamburg Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, Züricher Oper, and the Deutsche Oper am der Rhien. In 1990 she appeared in La Scala, Milan, and in London’s Royal Festival Hall as Leonore in FIDELIO under the baton of Loren Maazel, and sang the same role at the Salzburg Easter Festival with Kurt Mazur conducting. She was engaged to sing Brünnhilde in SIEGFRIED at the Bayreuth Festival with Daniel Barenboim conducting, and was invited by Wolfgang Wagner to sing Elsa in his production of LOHENGRIN conducted by Guiseppe Sinopoli at the Taormina Festival in Sicily. At the Vienna State Opera her roles included Elizabeth, Senta and Elsa, Ariadne, and the Marschallin as well as Leonore, FIDELIO. In a new production for Frankfurt she sang Andromoche in Aribert Reimann’s opera TROADES. Luana DeVol was invited by Wolfgang Sawallisch to sing with the Bayerische Staatsoper during its 1992 tour of Japan and in the Munich Summer Festival as the Kaiserin in a new production of DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN. She was the Kaiserin in the landmark production by Andreas Homoki of DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN, conducted by Christoph von Dohnanyi at the Chatelet Oper in Paris. In 1994 she made her debut at the Dresden Semperoper as Amelia in a new production of UN BALLO IN MASCHERA directed by Peter Konwitschny and conducted by Ingo Metzmacher, which was followed by the role of Maria in Strauss’ FRIEDENSTAG in a new production also by Konwitschny and conducted by Stefan Soltesz. Other roles at the Semperoper included Senta, Elsa, and Isolde in TRISTAN UND ISOLDE. Luana DeVol appeared with the Bamberger Symphoniker performing the Mahler 8th Symphony with Horst Stein conducting a concert marking the opening of the orchestra’s new hall. Horst Stein re-engaged her for a program of Wagner scenes and arias which was performed with the Bamberg Symphoniker on tour in Japan. She was invited to sing in performances by the Wiener Symphoniker of Franz Schreker’s operas CHRISTOPHORUS and IRRELOHE of which the recording of the latter has been released by Sony. With the VARA RADIO of the Netherlands, she appeared in the title role of DAS WUNDER DER HELIANE with Edo de Waart conducting. Her role debut as Isolde in Wagner’s TRISTAN UND ISOLDE occured in 1996 with the Braunschweig Staatstheater in a production directed by renowned singer and opera director Brigitte Fassbaebder and conducted by Philippe Augin. For her portrayal of Isolde in Leipzig and for her debut as Elektra in Basel, Luana DeVol was named in the European magazine "OPERN WELT - DAS JAHRBUCH" as Singer of the Year in 1997. |
